A Hearthstone company - serving Roanoke, VA

DuraFlex Fireplace Services Nationwide

Every visit starts with

Level 1 sweep and inspection to the NFPA 211 annual standard - flue, crown, cap, and flashing checked and photographed

Worth knowing

Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.

How DuraFlex Products Fail - and How We Fix Them

  • DuraFlex Pro aluminum gas liner - crevice corrosion at the flex joints. In Roanoke’s wet shoulder seasons, condensation sits in the valleys between corrugations where the aluminum thins fastest. We see this on 15-year-old Pro liners in Cave Spring and Grandin Road homes more often than the manufacturer literature suggests. Our fix: pull a camera first, then replace with a DuraFlex Pro section or, if the run is short and straight, a rigid DuraVent aluminum alternative that eliminates the flex points entirely. We show you the corrosion on screen before we quote.
  • DuraFlex SS (stainless) wood-burning liner - thermal fatigue cracking at the collar weld. The 316Ti alloy handles acid well but the collar-to-body weld is a stress riser. After a decade of Roanoke’s freeze-thaw cycles, hairline cracks open at the top termination. We spot this with our Level-2 camera and replace the collar with an OEM DuraFlex part or a compatible Gelco termination if the homeowner wants a taller rain cap. Either way, the warranty stays intact because we don’t mix incompatible alloys.
  • DuraFlex SL (smooth-wall) insert liners - reverse slope pooling. The SL’s low-friction interior is great for draft, but if the original installer pitched it wrong, condensation runs back toward the insert instead of out the cap. In Roanoke’s older Hollins and South Roanoke homes with shallow hearth depths, this is common. We re-pitch with adjustable elbows or, when the masonry allows, switch to a DuraFlex Pro smooth-wall with better drain fittings. The photos go in your report.
  • DuraFlex direct-vent gas fireplace co-axial terminals - spider nesting in the intake. The screened intake on DuraFlex co-ax terminals sits low and horizontal, perfect for paper wasps and the spiders that eat them. We’ve pulled enough webbing from these in Roanoke’s wooded lots to know the factory screen mesh is too coarse. We clean the terminal, test combustion, and can install a finer aftermarket screen or a DuraFlex-compatible Famco guard that doesn’t restrict airflow. This is a 30-minute fix that prevents a no-heat call at midnight.
  • DuraFlex factory-built chimney chase covers - galvanic corrosion at the storm collar. When a DuraFlex chase cover is paired with a dissimilar-metal storm collar or fastened with non-stainless hardware, the galvanic reaction eats the seal in five to seven years. Roanoke’s acid rain accelerates it. We replace with a Copperfield stainless chase cover and match the metals top to bottom, or use a Gelco cover if the chase geometry demands a custom bend. No more rust streaks down your siding.

Our DuraFlex Fireplace Services Process

  1. 1
Call intake with a live person. We ask for the DuraFlex model or series if you know it, the fuel type, and what you’re seeing. We don’t book blind.
  2. 2
Level-2 camera inspection on arrival. Our technician runs a camera the full length of the flue or liner, photographs every joint, termination, and firebox condition. You watch the screen. We explain what we see in plain English.
  3. 3
Parts decision: OEM or quality aftermarket. If DuraFlex OEM is in stock or a two-day order, we quote it. If the failure is common and a HeatShield or Gelco equivalent meets the spec, we explain the trade-off and let you choose. We never install a part we can’t warranty.
  4. 4
Repair with documentation. The technician completes the work, pressure-tests or smoke-tests as appropriate, and photographs the finished condition. Most DuraFlex repairs finish in one visit.
  5. 5
Written report and 90-Day Done Right Promise. You get photos, a plain-English verdict, and our guarantee in writing: if it’s not right, we make it right. No paperwork to find, no arguing.
  6. 6
Cleanup and final combustion or draft test. We leave the hearth cleaner than we found it and verify the system operates within manufacturer’s spec before we pack up.

Why Roanoke Homeowners Call Hearthstone Chimney Co. for DuraFlex Work

We’ve been on roofs in Roanoke since 1984. Russell Haines and our crew have worked on DuraFlex systems in this valley long enough to know which failures repeat and which ones surprise us. The 90-Day Done Right Promise means we put it in writing: if it’s not right, we come back. No forms to dig out of a drawer.

Our technicians are background-checked, uniformed, and carry OEM and quality aftermarket inventory for DuraFlex, HeatShield, and Gelco - so we’re not ordering parts after we tear your system apart. Most jobs finish in one visit. The price we quote is the price you pay. A clean chimney doesn’t announce itself. Neither does a problem - until it does. We’d rather find it on our schedule than on yours.
