Gelco Flue Liner Replacement Nationwide

Every visit starts with

Level 1 sweep and inspection to the NFPA 211 annual standard - flue, crown, cap, and flashing checked and photographed

Worth knowing

Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.

Gelco Flue Liner Replacement: The Roanoke Owner’s Guide

We stock and install Gelco-compatible flue liner replacement in Roanoke, with most jobs running $1,800 to $3,400 installed depending on length, diameter, and whether the existing liner pulls clean or needs cutting out. Our trucks carry the common Gelco diameters, 5.5-inch through 8-inch, and we can usually inspect, measure, and schedule the replacement within a single visit. Most Roanoke homeowners discover their liner has failed during a routine sweep when our camera finds gaps, corrosion scaling, or a separated seam, or when they notice smoke drafting back into the room on cold, still days.

Which Gelco Models This Applies To

Gelco manufactured several liner series over the years, and the replacement part you need depends on which generation is in your stack. The older Gelco “SmoothWall” stainless flexible liners, common on Roanoke homes built between 1985 and 2005, carry a part number stamped on the top termination collar. Newer Gelco Pro series liners use a different corrugation pitch and are not interchangeable at the connector. We see both in the older brick ranches around Grandin Road and the hillside splits in South Roanoke where the original builder spec’d Gelco.

If your collar tag is worn off, we measure inner diameter with a chimney caliper and check wall thickness with a pit gauge. Gelco SmoothWall runs .006-inch 316Ti stainless in most residential sizes; some Pro series moved to .005-inch with a heavier corrugated profile for equivalent strength. We match OEM spec unless the homeowner requests an upgrade to a heavier gauge, which we can source through our Olympia Chimney and DuraFlex supply lines. We are an independent service provider with no affiliation to Gelco, but we have installed enough of their product to know where the part numbers hide and which aftermarket equivalents meet the same UL 1777 listing.

Signs Your Gelco Flue Liner Replacement Is Failing

  • Smoke or odor spillage on startup. A separated seam or perforated section in your Gelco liner breaks the sealed flue path. Combustion gases take the path of least resistance, which is often back into your living space before the chimney warms and establishes draft.
  • White or orange flaky buildup on the liner wall. This is chloride corrosion, accelerated in Roanoke’s wet shoulder seasons when condensation sits in the flue instead of evaporating. Gelco’s 316Ti resists this better than 304 stainless, but twenty years of wet-cold cycling will find the limit.
  • Visible gaps or daylight through the liner in the camera inspection. The corrugated sections fatigue at the flex points, especially where the liner bends to enter the smoke chamber. We see this most often on taller Roanoke chimneys where the liner hangs under its own weight.
  • Water staining on the firebox walls or hearth extension. A compromised liner lets condensation reach the masonry. In Roanoke’s clay-heavy soil zone, that moisture wicks through the brick and shows up as efflorescence or damp spots you might mistake for a roof leak.
  • Your sweep recommends replacement after two consecutive inspections. When a Gelco liner shows progressive thinning or new corrosion pockets year over year, the remaining service life is shorter than the interval between sweeps. We document this with dated photos so you can see the change yourself.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Scope Typical Range in Roanoke
Gelco liner replacement, straight run, 5.5″ to 6″ diameter $1,800 - $2,400
Gelco liner replacement with offset or smoke chamber work $2,400 - $3,100
Full removal of failed liner plus new Gelco-compatible installation $2,800 - $3,400
Level-2 camera inspection with photo report Included

The range depends on three things: how many feet of liner we are pulling, whether the existing liner comes out in one piece or fragments and needs extraction, and if the top termination plate and rain cap are still serviceable. We price this upfront after inspection, not after we are halfway into your chimney. The number on the estimate is the number on the invoice. Our 90-Day Done Right Promise covers the installation in writing, no arguing. If it’s not right, we come back.

DIY or Call Us?

There is no safe DIY path for flue liner replacement. The work involves working at height on a pitched roof, handling sections of stainless steel with sharp corrugated edges, and properly sizing the liner to the appliance. A liner that is even slightly undersized will overdraw the firebox; one that is loose in the flue can reverse draft in certain wind conditions. We have pulled DIY attempts out of Roanoke chimneys where the homeowner got the diameter right but missed the requirement for an insulated wrap in an unlined masonry flue, which is most of them in this market.

What you can do: check your firebox and hearth for new stains, note any change in draft performance, and call us at (540) 787-3302. We will run the camera, show you what we see, and give you a price that does not change. Most Gelco liner replacements we book in Roanoke are completed in a single visit once the part is confirmed.
